A Great First Read from Tina! This is a great account for anyone who struggles with amenorrhea as well as anyone who is genuinely curious about the topic. I've never had this condition, but it was interesting to learn the science behind it in a more simplified way and what someone could do to take action to get their period back. I agree with others who have reviewed so far that it also helps with those who struggle with body image and fueling your body correctly.I would have been interested in learning more about if and how this would affect a woman once pregnant, as I think there will be some readers who would benefit from an anecdotal perspective on that. I also could have done without the emojis that appeared every once in a while (e.g. ;-), ;-P). But overall, this was written well and a great first read from Tina!Excellent information on a topic that is often swept under the rug As a long distance runner, I knew of Tina through her work on various Podcasts and then from her own show, Running For Real. I was intrigued by her courage in putting the topic of Sports-related Amenorrhea into the forefront, as it is not a subject one hears about often or is willing to discuss.As a recreational endurance athlete, I went through my own bought of this a few years ago, when upon going off birth control and ramping up my running mileage, I lost my period for a year. At the time, I did not think anything about it and never connected over exercising to possibly be a contributor. Thankfully, I regained it within 12 months, became pregnant and gave birth to a healthy baby girl. Since then, I lost my period again for a year after that, but it has since normalized by watching my exercise and diet.I love Tina's story, in that I can not only relate to it, but she presents it in such a way where she comes across as not only knowledgeable, but also relatable, funny, and to the point. She gives tips, ideas and suggestions that are realistic and helpful. Its refreshing to see a female athlete step forward and bring this subject into the spotlight, because I truly believe there are 1000's of women and girls struggling with this and have no idea where to start. This book is definitely something to share!An important story from a brave runner Tina stepping forward and saying the things out loud that people are afraid to talk about - the pressures placed on young (female) runners to be dangerously thin and the long term health implications of that - will hopefully change people's lives. Historically, amenorrhea has not received the attention from coaches and medical professionals that it should - and I hope that Tina sharing her story will make runners and patients push back harder.The book itself reads like a conversation with an old friend. The pages fly by easily, and if you do not already know Tina from her blog or podcast, you will quickly find yourself thinking of her as an old college buddy, or a sister.That Tina found her happy ending is inspiring and wonderful, but that she is still sharing her story and not allowing herself to be satisfied because it happened to all work out for her is a testament to the kind of person she is.
